Family Office Partners brings a single-family office COO to the multi-family side
Jason Mok joins the Elevation Point-backed advisory platform as Director of Family Office Services: a newly created role, a new Houston office and a signal about where family office talent is heading.
Family Office Partners, the Lafayette-based boutique multi-family office backed by Elevation Point, announced on 10 August that Jason Mok has joined the firm as Director of Family Office Services. The role is newly created: Mok will coordinate the firm's integrated work across investment management, tax strategy, estate planning, transaction advisory and the broader operational needs of affluent families, and he will do it from a newly opened Houston office.
What makes the appointment worth reading twice is the route Mok took to get there. He spent more than a decade in public accounting, starting in EY's Assurance practice, moving into Transfer Pricing, and finishing as a Director at PwC, where he advised multinationals and closely held businesses on international tax and cross-border structuring. Then he crossed to the other side of the table: eight years as Chief Operating Officer of a Houston single-family office, running tax coordination, liquidity planning, commercial real estate and the full personal-CFO function for an ultra-high-net-worth family, while sitting as an operating partner in several Houston hospitality businesses.
"Jason's background reflects exactly what Family Office Partners was built to provide: professionals capable of integrating the financial, operational, tax, and ownership issues that come with significant family wealth."
Benjamin T. Domingue · Founder & Managing Partner, Family Office Partners
Mok's own framing of the move is the part that will sound familiar to anyone who spends time around family offices:
"Throughout my career, I've seen how easy it is for important decisions to become fragmented across different advisors and specialists. The most successful outcomes often come when everyone is working from the same framework and toward the same objective."
Jason Mok · Director of Family Office Services
Why it matters
Operators are the new hires. Multi-family platforms used to recruit product specialists; increasingly they recruit people who have actually run a family office: the COOs who have lived through liquidity events, ownership decisions and the coordination problem first-hand. Mok's profile is the template.
"Integration over fragmentation" is the industry's sentence of the year. It is the same request we hear from principals in our own rooms: fewer specialists working in isolation, one framework held by someone accountable for the whole picture. Firms that can credibly promise that are winning mandates.
Houston keeps consolidating. A new office to hold one hire is a statement: energy wealth, operating businesses and the families behind them are concentrating advisory gravity in Texas. Worth watching for anyone building rooms for this audience.
